Project Description

What Artificial Turf Is Made Of

Modern synthetic grass is nothing like the flat, plastic carpet people remember from decades ago. Today’s turf is built from polyethylene, polypropylene, or nylon fibers tufted into a sturdy backing. That backing is perforated, so rain and pet messes drain straight through to the ground below instead of pooling on the surface. The blades come in different heights, colors, and textures, which lets us match the finished look to your property rather than dropping in one generic shade of green. A quality turf system, installed the right way, will last somewhere between 10 and 20 years depending on sun exposure and how much traffic it sees.

How We Install Artificial Turf

Good turf lives or dies by the base underneath it, so most of our work happens before the grass ever comes off the roll. We start by prepping the area so that it can accomodate a few inches of compactable gravel base material that we pack firm with a plate compactor, since a loose base is what leads to dips and wrinkles later. On top of that we lay a geotextile weed barrier so nothing pushes up through the surface.

Then we roll out the turf, keeping every blade pointed the same direction so the color reads evenly in the sun. We cut it to fit your space, stretch out any slack, and pin the edges down securely. Where two pieces meet, we join them with seam tape and adhesive so the transition disappears. The last step is infill, a layer of sand or a rubber blend brushed into the fibers that weighs the turf down and keeps the blades standing upright and springy underfoot.

Replacing or Removing Old Turf

Even the best turf reaches the end of its life eventually. When the fibers stay matted no matter how you brush them, the backing starts to tear, the seams pull apart, or odors linger after cleaning, it is usually time for a replacement. Pulling out old turf is straightforward for our crew. We cut the material into strips, lift the perimeter fasteners, roll it up, and haul it off. In a lot of cases the crushed rock subbase underneath is still level and compact, which means we can smooth it out and lay fresh turf right on top without rebuilding the whole foundation. That saves you both time and money.

Turf Replacement Rebates in Northern Colorado

Here is something a lot of people do not realize: swapping thirsty grass for a water-wise landscape can put money back in your pocket. Many cities and water districts across Northern Colorado run rebate or incentive programs that reward property owners for cutting back on lawn irrigation. The details shift from town to town, and programs open, close, and adjust their funding throughout the year. Some offer cash back per square foot, while others lean toward discounts on removal services or water-wise plant packages. Rules also vary on whether artificial turf qualifies on its own or has to be paired with living plants, so it always pays to check your local program before you start. We are glad to point you toward the right resources for your area and help you plan a project that fits what your provider offers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Synthetic grass does warm up in direct sun, more than a natural lawn would. Lighter blade colors, a quick rinse with the hose, or a shade sail all bring the temperature down fast. Most families find it comfortable for everyday use.
Yes. The perforated backing lets urine drain through, and solid waste rinses right off. Turf also spares you the muddy paw prints and dug-up patches that come with a real lawn.
With a solid base and normal use, a quality turf system lasts roughly 10 to 20 years. Heavier foot traffic pulls that number down, while a lightly used backyard sits closer to the top of the range.
Far less than a natural lawn, but not zero. An occasional rinse, a quick brush to stand the blades back up, and clearing off leaves is about all it takes. No mowing, watering, or fertilizing.
We do not recommend it. Laying turf straight over grass or soil leads to lumps, drainage problems, and weeds working their way through. A properly compacted base is what keeps the surface flat and lasting, which is why we take the time to build one.
